the overrwhelm (O.W.)…

Yes, it’s spelt incorrectly as it really is meant to be the over-r-whelm.

We all know the overrwhelm (O.W.). It can be so strong and can sneak up on you. The smallest thing can tip you over the edge and seem to be so much worse. We all need help coping and functioning in this crazy busy world as we take on too much.

I’m no different. I’m an entrepreneur, a partner (to a super guy who pitches in wherever and however he can to our family) and a mum to two awesome actives boys – who love to eat, there’s never enough food (sorry off on a tangent). My theory on parenting is ‘there’s no real handbook and we’re all doing our best’. I’m a person who really cares about people and listening to them. We are all constantly in motion and juggling many balls trying to get through each day unscathed. Ever feel like this?

We all require expert organisational and planning skills to run our lives efficiently and to manage the O.W. and I want to share insights and break throughs I’ve found help!

So what is the O.W.? I see the O.W. everywhere:

  • we want to do it all
  • we focus on the mundane tasks that don’t matter
  • we want to make a difference with kids/family/friends/work/world/life
  • we don’t exercise enough/eat the right food
  • we want to be our adventurous other self (that voice)
  • we want to be responsible
  • we want to be well rounded and creative
  • we want to be true to ourselves
  • we worry
  • Am I right??

I have so many conversations with that voice in my mind and with so many people I come into contact with about the O.W. on a daily basis. There must be something in that – if I can share and get a conversation going, maybe others can benefit.

Life is fast and we don’t want to miss things. Getting a better grasp on the little things and managing the O.W. brings an overall calmer state that spreads to all those around you. Then everyone is better at coping and we can enjoy life and learn to live in the present. If any insight I share along the way helps even a bit, then it’s worth sharing.

Did I mention we’re on Instagram [theoverrwhelm] and I’ll happily share my visuals for dealing, coping and surviving the O.W. Can you also share your insights too?

Baby Steps – be the best YOU!

I had a friend recently confide in me that he was struggling quite a bit with the over-r-whelm. He had a second health scare and asked me when he would actually see the obvious signs and make a change to his life. This is where I stepped in and gave him some...

Get Your Memory Back!

I think most kids have a great knack for retaining information, even useless information, at a rapid rate. I was certainly the Memory Game champion of my family and still love to play. As I’ve gotten older I’ve accepted that my memory isn’t what it...

How do you find your passion?

If you’d doing a puzzle, put down the f&*$ing mobile…

I’m trying so hard to be present. To enjoy every moment of the day whether I’m in my head on my own, with my kids, my partner or friends, I keep trying to bring myself back to this point so that I’m aware. Aware of what’s going on around me. I...

How do you spend your time?

I am constantly trying to improve my time management and find ways to take care of myself and have ‘me’ time. As a mum and general human being, this is super hard and I think we need to give ourselves a break and start by doing the best we can. When we...

Love and Balance…

We are simple creatures after all. It breaks my heart to see children that are not very active, eating poor food choices and missing that beautiful glow of just being a rambunctious kid. That glow you get from climbing trees and digging in the dirt to China (well from...

Do something everyday that scares you…

‘What other people think about you has nothing to do with you and everything to do with them.’ I love this quote – I can’t remember who said but I try and live by it. My son had a school disco in Year 1. He was excited about it because he loved...

Raising World Class Humans…

I’ve been butting heads with my 10 year old lately. I’m trying to figure out why we keep clashing and if I’m really the horrible mean mother he keeps telling me I am. Well, I know I’m doing my best and that I’m not horrible, nor is he...

What’s Your WHY?

Have you heard that before? What’s your WHY? Why do you feel like doing some things and dread doing others? Motivation. Motivation drives us – or not. Today my 6 year old, Cruz, wouldn’t get dressed. He told me his knee hurt. He hated school. He said...

Get out of automatic pilot and LIVE…

Maybe it’s age, but as I get older I find myself getting calmer in one breathe and trying to open my eyes wider so I don’t miss anything, but life does feel like it’s getting faster. I feel like I have a new wisdom, yet am still jamming as much and...

What is Overwhelm?

Unknown Outcome + Pressure + Noise = Overwhelm I listened to a brilliant podcast recently that really got me thinking about being in an overwhelmed state… It really got me thinking deeply and the message was so clear. How many of us just wing things and hope we...

What do you mean you don’t have a Will?

My husband [oh no we’re not married, but it’s easier to call him that – boyfriend sounds hilarious! – for all intensive purposes, he IS my husband] and I have had a will for many years and have ensured it is general enough to stand the test of...

Who is TED and do I know him?

Well actually TED and TEDx is a movement and an event that happens all over the world and growing. TED stands for Technology, Entertainment and Design so these are the pillars that all the information is centred on which really gives a huge scope of possibilities… I...

Older People Have a Magic We Should All Tap Into…

I’ve started to pay more attention to older people, and people in general. I want to be a better person and be more aware and this involves putting my mobile away and trying to be present to what’s happening around me. My good friend Andrew posted on...

Worrying… we can stop it…

Well worrying is something we all need to do so we know we’re alive… Some handle it better than others and as I get older I’m more aware of my own worrying. You get an email that just kicks you in the stomach. You didn’t see it coming and...

Multi-tasking is NOT healthy…

I’ve always been proud of my ability to multi-task, but I’ve recently learned sometimes it’s not something we should aspire to! Now going for a walk and listening to music or a podcast – tick, totally cool. Checking emails, answering the phone...

I Can’t Jump on the Trampoline!!

Ok, I’m speaking to women here and we’re talking Kegels. Whether you’ve had children (big or small) or not, are in super fit shape or not, gravity starts to creep up as we get older and it’s a bitch! Our pelvic floor muscles start to tire fast...

Do You Have Yearly Goals??

Ok that’s great your annual goals are in your head, but are they written down anywhere?? Goals are another brilliant way of controlling the over-r-whelm (O.W.) so the voice in your head is in the driver’s seat and this keeps you moving forward! I was...
