Our ice brick leaked all through the lunch and the cooler bag was coming home soaked. It started happening after only a few months

I’ve been using these great lunchboxes since my child was in Prep – and now I’m about to buy the next one for year 4! What I love is that it keeps things like cheeses and yoghurts nice and cold – so even if they come home uneaten – they are cold enough to go back into the fridge for the next day. Less wastage equals happy mum. I’ve even bought as gifts for friends overseas!

I just realised my boy has had his medium Fridge-to-go lunchbox for over 5 years now so was prompted to come on and write this review to recommend them. He got it at start of grade 6, he’s nearly finished grade 11 now. It has had some pretty rough treatment over the years and still works like new. I can’t believe the zip hasn’t broken yet. Can’t recommend this enough – extremely good value for money considering how long they last.

We bought Master 6 his fridge to go for Prep and I have have been very impressed with its ability to keep his lunch cold. He regularly has deli meats and yoghurt in his lunch, and if by chance he doesn’t eat it at school I have noticed they are still cool when I pick him up at the end of the day. Hubby also has a mini fridge 6 and it’s the perfect size for a man sized lunch! I must also add that their customer service is second to none – I had to contact them reference some stitching coming undo, I received an email back the same day and the problem was also resolved that day! Very happy indeed.

My children have been using their Fridge-to-go cooler bags since my son was in grade 2. He is now going into grade 9. They have survived day after day in a school yard. Any food that comes home is cold enough to go back into the fridge every time. My younger 2 have used theirs since starting school as well. I haven’t had a broken zip or anything! Well worth the bit extra price for the length of time they have lasted! I throw them through the washing machine on school holidays to keep them fresh. I decided to purchase new ones this year and looked around to see what else is on the market but have come to the fridge-to-go. So nice to have a product that has lived up to the company’s claim. Well done!

The medium fridge to go bag is perfect size for my young children (prep/kindy).It keeps things really cold, all day and I live in hot far north qld. The only negative I have is that it is hard to keep it from going smelly, and the zip has started to deteriorate after a year of prep. Even after I clean the bag it comes back smelly after the first day of use. The colours and patterns are perfect and don’t show wear and marks, great choice for kids.

Thanks for your feedback Rene!! We know how much Queenslanders especially love our bags! Great to hear you’re loving the patterns as well! In terms of care for the bags there are a few things to consider – 1. Be sure to keep the bag zipped up closed whenever possible so ensure the coolness stays inside the bag and doesn’t mix with the outside hot temperature. Bags left open especially in the heat of summer often result in more condensation (breeding ground for mold) even after everything inside has been eaten (and smells). Encourage your children to keep them zipped up and closed whenever possible and explain why so they can learn to ‘drive’ the bag themselves. 2. Leave your bag out and open to dry out after use to help prevent mold and nasty smells from accumulating. Whenever possible dry the bag out in the sun for a natural method of bacteria-cleansing. 3. Whenever necessary, give your bag a good old fashioned hand scrub – with a good clothes brush, using laundry or dish washing soap and don’t forget to dry in the sun. Others put their bag in a lingerie bag in the washing machine on a delicate cold cycle although this may reduce the lifespan of the bag. I hope these tips help!! Keep us posted! Thanks

    :

I agree with Rene. I love fridge-to-go medium bag it’s a perfect size for my sons lunch. It definitely keeps things really cold in the hot qld summer. The negative is that it is hard to keep it from going smelly, I wipe the bag of any food debris every time I empty it and wash it in the sink with hot soapy water. Biggest problem is the zip deteriorating especially in the corners, I’m lucky to get a year out of the bag. The current medium lunch bag is only 4 months old and the material of the zip is seperating in the corner from he zip teeth. Love the colours and patterns.

Hi Pauline – thanks for sharing and adding to the discussion. Have you used any of the suggestions given ie giving it a good hand scrub, using eucalyptus oil too when you’re scrubbing? Be sure to dry it out in the sun as well. Can you send me an image of your lunch bag to info@fridge-to-go.net.au of the zip as this shouldn’t happen. We’ll show our factory as quality is super important to us. Thanks again for sharing – we appreciate it! Noelle @Fridge-to-go

I have tried many lunch boxes and this is by far the best. As a qualified dietitian and nutritionist, I know how important it is to provide a daily source of dairy in my kids lunch boxes. The easiest form of dairy is often cheese, yoghurt or milk and I love that Fridge-to-go keeps these dairy items cold the whole day.

Thanks Teri – we appreciate your experience, especially as a dietitian and nutritionist!
