Our ice brick leaked all through the lunch and the cooler bag was coming home soaked. It started happening after only a few months

I’ve been using these great lunchboxes since my child was in Prep – and now I’m about to buy the next one for year 4! What I love is that it keeps things like cheeses and yoghurts nice and cold – so even if they come home uneaten – they are cold enough to go back into the fridge for the next day. Less wastage equals happy mum. I’ve even bought as gifts for friends overseas!

I just realised my boy has had his medium Fridge-to-go lunchbox for over 5 years now so was prompted to come on and write this review to recommend them. He got it at start of grade 6, he’s nearly finished grade 11 now. It has had some pretty rough treatment over the years and still works like new. I can’t believe the zip hasn’t broken yet. Can’t recommend this enough – extremely good value for money considering how long they last.

We bought Master 6 his fridge to go for Prep and I have have been very impressed with its ability to keep his lunch cold. He regularly has deli meats and yoghurt in his lunch, and if by chance he doesn’t eat it at school I have noticed they are still cool when I pick him up at the end of the day. Hubby also has a mini fridge 6 and it’s the perfect size for a man sized lunch! I must also add that their customer service is second to none – I had to contact them reference some stitching coming undo, I received an email back the same day and the problem was also resolved that day! Very happy indeed.

My children have been using their Fridge-to-go cooler bags since my son was in grade 2. He is now going into grade 9. They have survived day after day in a school yard. Any food that comes home is cold enough to go back into the fridge every time. My younger 2 have used theirs since starting school as well. I haven’t had a broken zip or anything! Well worth the bit extra price for the length of time they have lasted! I throw them through the washing machine on school holidays to keep them fresh. I decided to purchase new ones this year and looked around to see what else is on the market but have come to the fridge-to-go. So nice to have a product that has lived up to the company’s claim. Well done!

The medium fridge to go bag is perfect size for my young children (prep/kindy).It keeps things really cold, all day and I live in hot far north qld. The only negative I have is that it is hard to keep it from going smelly, and the zip has started to deteriorate after a year of prep. Even after I clean the bag it comes back smelly after the first day of use. The colours and patterns are perfect and don’t show wear and marks, great choice for kids.

    • Noelle Sadinsky

Thanks for your feedback Rene!! We know how much Queenslanders especially love our bags! Great to hear you’re loving the patterns as well! In terms of care for the bags there are a few things to consider – 1. Be sure to keep the bag zipped up closed whenever possible so ensure the coolness stays inside the bag and doesn’t mix with the outside hot temperature. Bags left open especially in the heat of summer often result in more condensation (breeding ground for mold) even after everything inside has been eaten (and smells). Encourage your children to keep them zipped up and closed whenever possible and explain why so they can learn to ‘drive’ the bag themselves. 2. Leave your bag out and open to dry out after use to help prevent mold and nasty smells from accumulating. Whenever possible dry the bag out in the sun for a natural method of bacteria-cleansing. 3. Whenever necessary, give your bag a good old fashioned hand scrub – with a good clothes brush, using laundry or dish washing soap and don’t forget to dry in the sun. Others put their bag in a lingerie bag in the washing machine on a delicate cold cycle although this may reduce the lifespan of the bag. I hope these tips help!! Keep us posted! Thanks

I agree with Rene. I love fridge-to-go medium bag it’s a perfect size for my sons lunch. It definitely keeps things really cold in the hot qld summer. The negative is that it is hard to keep it from going smelly, I wipe the bag of any food debris every time I empty it and wash it in the sink with hot soapy water. Biggest problem is the zip deteriorating especially in the corners, I’m lucky to get a year out of the bag. The current medium lunch bag is only 4 months old and the material of the zip is seperating in the corner from he zip teeth. Love the colours and patterns.

    • Noelle Sadinsky

Hi Pauline – thanks for sharing and adding to the discussion. Have you used any of the suggestions given ie giving it a good hand scrub, using eucalyptus oil too when you’re scrubbing? Be sure to dry it out in the sun as well. Can you send me an image of your lunch bag to of the zip as this shouldn’t happen. We’ll show our factory as quality is super important to us. Thanks again for sharing – we appreciate it! Noelle @Fridge-to-go

    Teri Lichtenstein

I have tried many lunch boxes and this is by far the best. As a qualified dietitian and nutritionist, I know how important it is to provide a daily source of dairy in my kids lunch boxes. The easiest form of dairy is often cheese, yoghurt or milk and I love that Fridge-to-go keeps these dairy items cold the whole day.

    • Noelle Sadinsky

Thanks Teri – we appreciate your experience, especially as a dietitian and nutritionist!

We have been using these lunch boxes for the past 4 years and they are far superior than others I have tried. I am looking to buy another 2 this year for my 2 boys (the last ones lasted 2 years) the only problem is they both like the same design(triangles) in this seasons limited edition ones, any chance you have any blue themed ones left over from last year???

    • Noelle Sadinsky

Thanks for reaching out! We have the 9 different colours/patterns in the medium and they’re all on our website. Unfortunately, we don’t have any additional colours/patterns at this stage… hopefully they can pick one that works! Thanks for checking!

I love these lunchboxes and have been using them for about 5 years now. Yes you do have to replace them from time to time but that’s like any lunch box. They keep things cold ALL DAY and things come back still cold in the afternoon. I know you aren’t meant to but I turn mine inside out and put them in the washing machine on gentle to clean.

    • Noelle Sadinsky

Thanks for your tips and words of widsom Rachel!! I put mine in the washing machine too! 😉

Love that my munchbox fits in the bag and maybe a banana but the popper doesn’t quite fit down the side and if it is on top then the little one has difficulty zipping up the bag. We need another size between medium and the large carry all family size … one that holds a munch box, popper and a piece of fruit … but without being too large to fit into the school bag …

    • Noelle Sadinsky

Thanks for your feedback Bailey! We used to have a longer Fridge-to-go and are looking at bringing it back as we do get a number of people wanting a slightly larger size. Watch this space!! (We do listen!) Noelle @Fridge-to-go

It keeps food cold and fresh all day and if my son doesn’t eat his yoghurt it’s right to pop back in the fridge so less wastage. It’s fits our yumbox nicely. But adding in a snack container in top is a very tight squeeze, a few cms higher would elimate this for those that use bento boxes for lunch and still need to pack fruit or recess. Still is highly recommended.

    • Noelle Sadinsky

Thanks Kat – we’re listening and looking at bringing our longer Fridge-to-go bag back to help those using a bento. Would you have a colour/pattern preference by chance? Thanks Noelle @Fridge-to-go

What a fantastic lunchbox for the kids! When it is not being used by the kids I take it to the supermarket to put my deli meats and cheese it to keep it cold until I get home. I have bought these for family and friends with young kids and they are always appreciated.

    • Noelle Sadinsky

Thanks so much for your feedback and for sharing Lauri!! I love taking my bag to the supermarket too so I don’t need to rush home right away! Noelle @Fridge-to-go

Love this product, my sons bag has been great however I bought the pink one for my daughter and after a few mo this the zipper keeps getting stuck half way around. Very frustrating & without a receipt to take back it’s useless.. abit disappointed

    • Noelle Sadinsky

Hi Kylie – thanks so much for your feedback! If you can email us at and let us know what bag you have, when you bought it and from where, we’ll see if we can help. Thanks! Noelle 😉

I’ve been using Fridge-to-Go lunch bags for 4 years and they really do keep my sons lunch cool all day. There’s still some coolness left in the ice brick when I pick him up and he can enjoy any left overs in the car on the way home from school. I have taken a star off because I think there needs to be a purchase option to buy the bag without the ice brick! I have 7 bricks in my freezer and only 1 bag in use. The outer bags need to be replaced every year because they always end up dirty and with a mold looking black stain under the flap where the pocket is. I wipe out my sons bag every afternoon and it also get’s a thorough wash every weekend, so I know it’s not us being dirty that’s creating the black stain… All lunch boxes / bags get dirty, not just this one, but most lunch bags are much cheaper and you can just reuse your ice bricks.

Thanks so much for your feedback Jay!! Wow, you’re great at keeping your panels – so many people lose them or leave them behind, not to mention using them in larger eskies too. In future if you’re keen to only get the bag, we are able to do this (ie $35 instead of $40.95). We don’t have it as an option on our website as most people want spares so everyone uses them differently. In future please use our contact form and we’ll be sure to sort you out! Thanks again! Awesome!!! Started buying these when my girls were babies. still buying at 13yrs. Fit perfectly into a school bag. easy to wash, quality amazing. Just wish there was older colours patterns for teenagers. And without the drink holder on the side.(we cut it off- but needed for younger kids). Chevron is perfect. Straps not needed, just an added expense an a teenager range.

    • Noelle Sadinsky

Thanks for the feedback – love it! 2 of our 4 new patterns are geared to older kids/teens so we’re definitely mindful of having options for them too – we’ll never be too ‘cute-sy’ too! 😉

After having success with the bags for picnic/work lunches… Mini Fridge 6 & 12 in 2014… we decided to get our QLD Prep kid one for lunches in 2019. The bags are strong, easy to use, and pretty light. The zips are still going strong and so are the ice-bricks. Our kid loves the pink colour, and is happy to be able to yoghurt etc to school on QLD hot summer days. It doesn’t come home from school cold, she’s still learning to re-zip after opening… but when she uses it for family picnics and gets the re-zip reminder, it does come home cold. The work bags come home cold.

[Unlike the other ice-bricks, we did notice the school lunch ice-brick bulges a little to one side when frozen standing up… it is wider… so we lie it flat in the freezer and it always freezes without any bulging].

Our kid is still getting used to keeping it zipped… leaves it unzipped while eating… so by mid term it gets a bit smelly… so we wash it by itself in the washing machine with 2cups apple cider vinegar and 1/2cup bicarb. It comes out smelling amazing again. I don’t know if that’ll reduce the life of the bag, but we’ve done that a few times with the others after a milk spill and never had a problem. [We wash the washing machine first using the same vinegar/bicarb mix].

Our kid loves the drink holder on the side, but only attaches the shoulder strap for picnics.
